We are celebrating 25 years of Independence so here are 25 facts about this born free designer.

  1. Lafika was born in 1990
  2. Star sign: Cancer/Leo cusp
  3. Fashion and Textiles Designer
  4. Lafika means arrived – as in independence has arrived.
  5. Completed high school at the Diocesan School for Girls in Grahamstown, South Africa.
  6. Matriculated in 2008.
  7. Moved to Durban, South Africa where she completed her 3 year National Diploma in Fashion & Textiles at the Durban University of Technology .
  8. In her final year, Lafika was selected as part of the Vodacom Durban July Top 30 Young Achievers Designers Award 2012.
  9. At 22 years of age, Lafika launched her label “LaFigure by Lafika“.
  10. Lafika is known for her own textile prints that that later transform into garments.
  11. Lafika’s Brand “LaFigure By Lafika” was built around the foundation that clothes can also be art.
  12. Her brand loves individuals who are blind sighted by a colour, confident and embrace their roots.
  13. The brand was created with art-loving, fashion conscious individuals in mind.
  14. LaFigure pays tribute to classical fashion clothing pieces through eclectic designs.
  15. When Lafika started her brand it focused only on women’s wear.
  16. In 2014, she debuted her first collection that included menswear.
  17. She currently caters for both male and female.
  18. ​Lafika is known for her unconventional prints.
  19. Lafika is inspired by everything and has no boundaries.
  20. She considers herself a ‘jill of all trades and master of all’.
  21. Her love for radio has recently become a realty.
  22. Not only is she trying to push her clothing brand but trying to build herself as a brand.
  23. Her brand is currently going through a process of re-branding.
  24. When Lafika Turns 25 in July this year, her brand will no longer be called “LaFigure” by Lafika
